DANCE AND ALEXANDER TECHNIQUE

Alexander Technique helps to develop a dancer’s body awareness.
This awareness informs him about what his body is about, how he uses it, but mostly how to use it differently, in a more efficient and healthy way.
In addition, AT helps to build a dancer’s self awareness, awareness about who he is.

With the technique bad habits in posture and movement become evident, so they can be replaced by new and better habits for physical improvement.
Automatically along with this, changes on a mental, emotional, psychological and spiritual level occur as well (consciously or unconsciously) because habits on these levels are interconnected with the habits on the physical level.

The AT works holistic in the sense that it approaches a human being as a whole and not just as a body. So without doing any form of therapy a dancer can grow as a person. This growing is in fact his being that opens up, and this is directly linked to his creativity. As soon as a student gets rid of an old habit new inspiration can come in. 

AT helps to strengthen the proprioceptive sense of the dance student, his sense of Self. The center of this Self is the source of all creativity.

In a school for Choreography creation itself cannot be separated from who the choreographer is as a person. The more connected the choreography student is to his Self/Being, the more he can put that to use in his creative work. This will as well improve his presentation and performance skills.
